The Latest Topic | Circulation and Heart Health
Improving the efficieny of the circulation is one of the most rewarding
effects of eating for your health. Many aspects of health, from energy
to eyesight, are affected by the supply of oxygen and nourishment to
the body.
Impaired circulation is linked to conditions ranging from heart disease
and stroke to varicose veins and poor resistance to infection.
What we eat affects the circulation by helping or hindering the heart
and by influencing the elasticity of blood vessels, the ability of
the blood to carry oxygen, and its tendency to form clots.
Although circulation health is to some extent hereditary, it is also
closely connected to living habits. Both high blood pressure and high
cholesterol levels can be radically improved by changes in eating habits.
General Advice
- Eat less fat, especially saturated fat, which, in excess,
encourages deposits of fatty plaque in the arteries.
- Stop smoking
and avoid excess alcohol. Both encourage hardening of the arteries.
- Get
brisk exercise daily, maintain good posture, and breathe deeply.
Always seek the advise of your doctor before you make drastic changes
in your diet. You should want to be safe and know where you stand before
you attempt substantial dietary changes.
